Phytoestrogens and endometriosis

Dear Stephen,
I noticed that Japanese knotweed is a phytoestrogen. I have endometriosis in addition to lyme. Could taking this herb exacerbate my endometriosis by mimicking estrogen? Are there any others I should avoid? Replacements? Thank you for a great book! I really appreciate the detail put into the explanations.

Stephen’s response:
No, it should not add to the problem. I would not hesitate to use it. You might check out the book (abebooks.com) American Herbalism, edited by Michael Tierra, published about 1992 or so (out of print, so a used copy is what you will find). Selena Heron developed a great protocol for endometriosis that I have used many times with great success.
