Ginger root caused herx

Dear Stephen,
I recently ate some fresh ginger root that seasoned a Chinese dish I had and had a strong herx afterwards. I’ve read that ginger has some antimicrobial effects, but wondered what you might know about the topic.

Stephen’s response:
Ginger is a very good antimicrobial and antiviral. I use it myself when coming down with the flu (along with cayenne and honey). It may indeed be the cause.
